trending // bar carts

October 3, 2014

I love a good bar cart. Honestly though, who doesn't? It is a piece of furniture designed to be stylish and used whenever a thirst is itching to be quenched. With so many options (in various price points) the possibilities are endless, and to celebrate this awesome interior trend, I decided to highlight some of my favorites.

Whether it be gold, silver, or even a vintage piece repurposed, there are so many ways to incorporate this trend into your home. My biggest tip: just have fun with it! This is one of those trends that can be taken to any level. Storage for your collections of magazines, a whole shelf of glasses, just have fun and play with the levels. Meaning- mix high and low bottles, throw in a small bowl of corks, and maybe a little life (a small plant or two) and you have yourself the perfect place to serve up that up that lovely cocktail (or two ;) ).

trending // Tee-Pee Living.

June 3, 2014

Now I know this might make me the biggest interior design nerd, but I'm seriously obsessed with the current trend of having a tee-pee in the home. Of course, tepees have been around well before the thoughts of the modern living, however recently the influx of incorporating this native dwelling into the common home has left me craving to jump on board the tee-pee band wagon. Whether it is for your kids to play in, your pet to sleep in, or mobile enough to picnic under, the idea of having a little camp out area is always fun.

So don't be surprised if a DIY post comes along (soonish) of my take on this tee-pee trend for my little man, cat. But while you wait, here are some fun ways others have incorporated this playful trend into their homes.

trending // gold flatware.

August 6, 2013

I will admit that I am certainly a silver girl, but this recent trend of switching the classic silverware for some shiny gold utensils has left me pulling at my purse strings (of course for the, more affordable, west elm version. A girls got to be practical).

As you can see from my inspiration images, this trend can spice up any dining table by complimenting your plates and napkins like a necklace does to an outfit. This mix on a classic necessity still maintains its functional needs, but brings in a playful twist that anyone can appreciate.

One of the things I love most about this trend is whether you choose to splurge on the Marchesa by Lenox addition or take the more budget conscious option from west elm , both leave your table looking absolutely beautiful. This, of course, leaves me absolutely in love with this interior trend and will definitely be adorning my dining table with some fun gold pieces soon.

trending // Faux Taxidermy.

July 12, 2013

Fashion trends come and go. From overalls in someone’s everyday wardrobe to rocking Alexander McQueen sky-high high heels; Project Runway said it best that - “… one day you’re in, and the next you’re out”.

The same can be said for interior design/decor. Of course there are classics, like an Eames chair or a Chanel bag, which transform from trending to must have items after decades on the market. But for a lot of décor pieces, something that is “in” and modern today, can be tacky the next.

My first trending item for Color.me.quirky is one, which probably won’t stick around for long, and is most likely not supported by PEDA, but is still one of my favorites. Take the hunter-gatherer mentality and mix it with a modern twist and you have… Faux Taxidermy decor!

From taking the whole faux head of its nature animal counterpart, to taking tape and just outlining the creature figure, I love the way a natural aspect can be brought into the home with a fun twist.

As you can see by the images above, these fake animal figures can be done in many ways leaving your interior with a quirky modern trending item to liven up any space.
