treehouse.

March 9, 2016

Whoever said “choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” must have been a born billionaire or in the legal marijuana game because although I love what I do, sometimes it’s definitely work. The last couple of days have been all kinds of hectic. Back to back client meetings, proposals galore and even a quick side project to top it all off.  Work was definitely getting done. But one thing I’ve learned (and this might be complete common-sense but I’m still going to share) is no matter what, never wake up and tell yourself “today is going to suck”. That was me Monday and (if you couldn’t tell by the post) it did, in fact, suck.

We’re past that now. On to bigger, better and more beautiful things. Like this insane modern day treehouse. Built as a personal project by architect Jesse Bennett and his interior designer wife Anne-Marie Campagnolo, this home takes open and airy to a whole new level. Titled the “Planchonella House”, the designing couple was able to incorporate the home into its environment in such a seamless way. They utilized the views by integrating floor-to-ceiling windows and laying out the interiors with an open floor plan, giving anywhere you sit an incredible view. Overall Bennett and Campagnolo were able to create a home that encapsulated both a playful and architecturally sound aesthetic. Absolutely beautiful.

modern loft.

February 26, 2016

Lofts can be incredibly tricky to design well (key word in that sentence is “well”). I know it might sound ideal- a space that is essentially a blank canvas just waiting for great design to emerge- but as many may know, a blank canvas is not always the best. Essentially the thing that makes a loft amazing is the same thing that makes it hard to design well: the open layout. An open layout is ideal for singles –the bachelor and bachelorettes of the world- but add another person and all the sudden walls are essential for survival. But, of course, the reason a loft is so appealing is that open and airy nature. People forget though that you still need to divide the space and allow for that same privacy a typical home provides. I’m talking about doors and walls people. Yes open and airy is nice but when you’re getting dressed in the morning and you have a guest, doors and walls are kind of essential.

That said, when I see a well-designed loft that still feels like a home, I’m always impressed (and not going to lie, pretty envious). This loft is just that. It still maintains that open and airy feel but divides its space in a way that turns it into a functional (beautifully designed) home.

queen B.

February 8, 2016

In case you missed it, this weekend was huge on the media front. Yes yes, there was some big football game to interrupt the slew of weirdly creepy commercials. But more importantly the internet was rocked on Saturday by none other than the queen of basically all things amazing: Beyoncé. Now I’m not the biggest Beyoncé fan. And before you whip out those pitch forks, let me explain. I think Beyoncé is amazing. She is stunning, beyond talented, a great face for women empowerment, and I absolutely love that she keeps her personal life (for the most part) out of the media. I am basically the kind of fan that if someone were to buy me tickets to go watch her perform I would definitely drop whatever other plans I had and go. However, I am in no means die hard (I honestly don’t even follow her on Instagram).  I am definitely a fan though.

With that said, I’m kind of beyond a fan of her media team. I mean the fact that she was able to keep her new video (which is INCREDIBLE by the way and if you haven’t watched, you need to) under wraps and release it the day before she performed the new song at the super bowl was brilliant. It put her on the tongues and media pages of people across the US right before the biggest American game of the year. This pretty much guaranteed her the opportunity to steal the show. So as a person who essentially only watches the super bowl for the food and the halftime show, for me it was all about Beyoncé. Well Beyoncé and nachos.
