planter DIY

February 6, 2016

It’s finally here! Yes, that’s right; my first ever video tutorial is officially here! Last week I highlighted my shopping trip with krrb.com and hinted that a piece of vintage picked up on this adventure was turned into the perfect indoor planter. And now, without further ado here is my first ever video tutorial…

Now that you’ve seen the video let’s get into the project. For this project I turned an (what I believe to be) old library index box into a planter and gave it a slight face lift. It is one of the easiest DIY ever. What you will need to make your own is the following:

Painters tape

Ruler

News paper

Any Glass Jar

A rectangle box of any kind – these wooden vintage boxes are really easy to find and make the perfect shape for a planter

Soil

Various plants

Spray Paint

1. Measure & mark first 10" from the bottom and then 4" from the top.

2. Use your painters tape to connect the two marks. Secure firmly.

3. Take news paper and cover the larger area of the box

4. Now comes the fun, choose your color and go crazy!

5. Wait about five minutes for your spray paint to dry. This might take longer depending on the type of paint you use.

6. Carefully remove newspaper and tape

7. Next take any glass jar. I used an old candle jar.

8. Then scatter some small rocks and add your plants with extra soil as needed.

All Done! And now that you've watched and created your own planter don't forget to subscribe to color.me.quirky on youtube and comment below. I would love to hear what all of you think (but please be kind)!

reasons to move to Melbourne

February 5, 2016

Because I’m a horrible planner and need one extra day for the big video tutorial unveiling [in case you missed it, part one might help] here is a gorgeously colorful home tour to tide you over.

This magical Melbourne space is basically where my home dreams are made of. With the classic mid-century designed furniture and colorful mixture of patterns, this space literally makes me happy when I scroll through. And to top it off, that backyard is the definition of cute. But more than all that, I love that this home isn’t incredibly big, however feels as though there is ample room for the home owners. It gives that perfect feeling of hominess at a magazine worthy level. So good.

If you didn’t know by now, I am in no means a writer. Half the time I have blog posts full of inspiration waiting to be shared, but since my writing skills are [extremely] limited, the posts stay in the “draft” section for months. This morning is one of those mornings. Inspiration waiting to be shared, but nothing really to say. I had a great weekend. Bought a sofa (see the beautiful piece below). Got to hang out with some high school friends I haven’t seen in forever. But other than that, nothing really to say.  You know what though, this is my blog. My place that I can do whatever I want. So this morning I will do this. Write a pointless paragraph about how I have nothing to write just to be able to share what is inspiring me this Monday.

Let just go with it & happy Monday.

shopping with krrb

January 29, 2016

Alright, better late than never right guys? This post is about five months in the making and I have absolutely no excuse other than my brain getting caught up with other activities. Not to mention that this post will have a second part, and my desire to make it as amazing as possible slowed me down considerably. That being said, this activity was definitely on the top of my favorite adventures of 2015.

In late summer, early September, of 2015 I was approached by Krrb.com to see if I wanted to go vintage shopping with them around Brooklyn. For those of you who don’t know Krrb.com, I’m here to tell you it’s your vintage dreams answered through the internet. Krrb allows real life people to connect- in a safe environment- to sell their vintage and furniture goods. And even better, it is so user friendly that a ton of smaller vintage shops around the US use Krrb to list their products- which can be extremely hard to find- making it even easier for anyone anywhere to obtain beautiful vintage pieces.

As all of you might know by now, my love for vintage furniture is kind of insane. So I, of course, jumped at the opportunity. The plan was simple, stop by some of Krrb's favorite vendors Grace & Favor , RePop , Brooklyn Reclimation & Two Jakes and see what we could find. Let me tell you I saw some amazing pieces. At the time I was, unfortunately, not in the position I’m in now (basically needing all new everything for the new apartment), but I was still able to find some great vintage accessories.

This leads me to part two of this post. I was able to find the perfect item for a custom indoor planter and I will go into that part next week with [drum roll please] a video tutorial! To be clear, this is my first ever video tutorial and although I went to art school, I have taken no classes on film or editing at all. So bear with me and check back next week for, what I hope, you all will love.
